(Cindy Crawford).

Supermodels & Duran Duran Get Together To Make Beautiful Music For Harper's Bazaar

Five of the original supermodels, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Yasmin Le Bon, Cindy Crawford and Eva Herzigova teamed up with Duran Duran in June to shoot the music video for the band's upcoming single, "Girl Panic!" and the December 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar UK had the first look.

STORY: Did Brittani "Autumn" Kline Break The "America's Next Top Model" Curse?

As Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes explained of the project:

"Harper's had approached us about collaborating with the magazine on something really special when the new album came out. I’d had this crazy idea for a video for the song 'Girl Panic!', that looked fantastic on paper, but that I thought in reality would be impossible to pull off. The idea was to re-create a day in the life of the band, with five of the world’s greatest supermodels playing all of us. Lucy [Yeomans, editor of Harper's Bazaar UK] loved the idea of doing a cover shoot within the video itself — and so it all began."

On the cover, the five supermodels looked amazing in black Dolce & Gabbana corsets. Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were also on set for the shoot as well. Inside of the magazine, you can see each model's transformation into Duran Duran band members, with Campbell playing lead singer Simon Le Bon.

The "Girl Panic!" video, which was directed by Jonas Ackerlund — who also did Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" and "Telephone" music videos — is expected to be released in installments virally online before premiering in whole later this year.

Duran Duran To Premiere Short Film This Week
11/07/2011

Duran Duran will debut a nine-minute short film, for the song "Girl Panic" on November 8th. The track comes from their latest album All You Need Is Now.

Directed by award-winning Jonas Åkerlund, this dazzling new video reunites five of the world's top supermodels: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon with the members of Duran Duran in a short film, that was shot in London, in and around The Savoy, over two days earlier this summer.

Made in association with Swarovski Elements, this stunning video showcases the acting and performance skills of the five 'supers' as they take on the roles of the members of the band, in a day-in-the-life-of expose, that has every ounce of trademark Duran Duran humour and glamour - topping any video they've ever made and making this the most talked-about music and fashion collaboration of the year.

Bringing their own style, irreverence and personality to each character Naomi Campbell steps up to the mic as lead singer Simon Le Bon, Cindy Crawford strikes a pose as bassist John Taylor, Eva Herzigova embodies keyboardist Nick Rhodes as the only blonde in the band, Helena Christensen rocks out as drummer Roger Taylor and Yasmin Le Bon makes a droll turn as 'the anonymous guitarist'. While the "real" members of DURAN DURAN cameo as bellhops, waiters, chauffeurs and paparazzi, and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana play Harper's Bazaar UK's guest fashion editors for the day, during a photoshoot scene (still images from which form a 22 page cover story for the December issue of the magazine.)
The film was produced by Black Dog Films for DURAN DURAN, in association with Swarovski Elements, who incorporated not only fashion and jewellery made with the world famous crystals, but also sparkling interior objects, furniture and the Swarovski Crystal Curtain.

Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes speaking of the project from New York, where the band have just completed a six week US tour said today: "I'd had this crazy idea for a video for the song Girl Panic !, that looked fantastic on paper, but that I thought in reality would be impossible to pull off. The idea was to recreate a day-in-the-life of the band, with five of the world's greatest supermodels playing all of us. At the time, I had no idea what would be involved in making it happen, but we talked to Jonas about it and he loved the basic concept and wanted to develop it into something really unique – and so it all began."

The "Girl Panic !" video will have its world premiere on www.Vevo.com November 8th. Watch the "Making of Girl Panic" film which premiered exclusively on Style.com!

Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon added: "We have made some pretty ambitious videos over the years, but this one was certainly the most challenging to date. Coordinating the schedules of five of the world's biggest supermodels, Jonas, and the band was no easy task – but we couldn't be happier with the finished film. It has all of the ingredients that we feel are important – it's humorous, glamorous, sexy and very Duran Duran.

Bassist John Taylor continues "We teamed up with Swarovski Elements, who provided some incredible pieces for the video that brought a real beauty to it. When you look for partners on something like this, you need to find people who really fit with the aesthetic of what you're trying to do, and with Swarovski I think it was the perfect match, as they represent quality, glamour and absolute glitz!!

Le Bon to do this: Naomi Campbell leads the supermodels on film as they transform into Eighties icons Duran Duran for stunning photoshoot
By MARCUS BARNES
3rd November 2011

They may be a little older than their successors on the catwalks of the world, but a group of supermodels prove they can still rock and roll in a new photoshoot with Harper's Bazaar.
Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Yasmin Le Bon, Cindy Crawford and Eva Herzigova teamed up for the shoot which sees them transformed into members of Duran Duran.
Each of the five models take a different role in the band, Naomi Campbell, quite predictably, taking pole position as the lead singer.

Dressed in a red velvet suit, the 41-year-old wears her hair similar to Mick Jagger in his heyday. In fact, her guise is modeled on that of her model friend Yasmin's husband, Simon Le Bon.

While Cindy Crawford and Yasmin LeBon flank her with their guitars.
Cindy, 45, plays John Taylor in a matching grey pinstripe waistcoat and trousers handling her bass guitar like a seasoned pro.
Likewise Yasmin, 47, holds her guitar with experience wearing an all-black ensemble including a choker around her neck.
At the back Helena Christensen, 42, takes charge of the drums.

She plays Roger Taylor and is dressed suitably in all-black like her bandmate Yasmin, this time however with her sleeves rolled up in true rock drummer style.
Youngest of the group at 38, Eva Herzigova works the keyboard as Nick Rhodes, looking great in a fitted white suit.
The five ladies also team up for the magazine's front cover in black Dolce & Gabbana corsets, and prove why they're still highly regarded within the fashion industry, their collective age of 203 no reflection on their modeling capabilities.

Styled by Vanessa Coyle, the shoot was done to as part of Duran Duran's latest new music video - in association with Swarovski Elements - for new single Girl Panic.
The project stars the five supermodels in an uber glam promo directed by Jonas Ackerlund, of Lady Gaga's Paparazzi and Telephone (featuring Beyoncé) fame.

Model behaviour: The ladies appear on the front cover of Harper's Bazaar this month
And the supers were also joined by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana at the shoot which took place back in June.
Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes speaking of the project from New York, where the band have just completed a six week US tour said today: 'Harpers had approached us about collaborating with the magazine on something really special when the new album came out.
'I’d had had this crazy idea for a video for the song Girl Panic!, that looked fantastic on paper, but that I thought in reality would be impossible to pull off.
'The idea was to recreate a day-in-the-life of the band, with five of the world’s greatest supermodels playing all of us. Lucy loved the idea of doing a cover shoot within the video itself – and so it all began.'
Lead singer Simon Le Bon added: 'We have made some pretty ambitious videos over the years, but this one was certainly the most challenging to date.
'Coordinating the schedules of five of the world’s biggest super models, Jonas, and the band was no easy task – but we couldn’t be happier with the finished film.
'It has all of the ingredients that we feel are important – it’s humorous, glamorous, sexy and very Duran Duran.'
The video for Girl Panic is expected to be serialised virally online before premiering in whole later this year.

Duran Duran Releases New Video for "Girl Panic!"

For a band who helped build their reputation on music video, it’s been a long time since Duran Duran made a promotional film worthy of their classic clips from the ‘80s, which repeatedly cast the band as a hedonistic, futuristic, slightly effeminate gang of pirates.

Some of those videos - “Girls on Film,” “Rio” and “The Chauffeur” among them - turn up in a jarring montage midway through “Girl Panic!”, the new Duran Duran film directed by Jonas Åkerlund. I say film, because it’s nearly 10 minutes long, though it could also just as easily be called an infomercial. More on that in a minute.

There is a plot, a sort of loose one which is ultimately meant to tug at memories of an era when the guys in Duran Duran were young and pretty and supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon were even younger and prettier. Those models appear in “Girl Panic!” and to the surprise of almost no one, they still look incredible. In fact, the only shock of all is that being married to swarthy Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon for a few decades has only served to make Yasmin Le Bon get even better as the years pass. Surely Oscar Wilde would have had an explanation for that.

So the plot, such as it is, is one of rock & roll decadence: Waking up in a fancy hotel (in this case London’s Savoy) surrounded by hot chicks, clearly having overdone it the night before with the booze and blow, but still looking like a god among wastrels. The rock stars in this case, however, are the supermodels, which I suppose qualifies as a twist if you can’t remember who Robert Palmer is.

Campbell plays the role of Simon Le Bon in the video, while the rest of the Fab 4/5 are portrayed by Crawford (bass guitarist John Taylor), Herzigova (keyboardist Nick Rhodes) and Christensen (drummer Roger Taylor). Yasmin Le Bon turns up as an unnamed guitarist in a sort of tongue-in-cheek gag which may or may not sit well with the band’s long time axeman, Dom Brown, an unofficial member who has been a crucial piece of the puzzle over the past few years, both in the recording studio and on stage.

There are other in-jokes as well, with the actual members of Duran Duran serving as photographers, journalists and hotel staff: Le Bon is a clumsy room service waiter; Rhodes a patient bellhop; Roger Taylor an elevator operator who may be the victim of sexual harassment or at least the makings of a letter for Penthouse Forum; and John Taylor as a chauffeur (get it?!?!?!?)

In the first Wayne’s World film, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey broke the fourth wall in a memorable bit about how products like Doritos can appear on screen as a sort-of-subtle means of advertising. Swarovski Crystals are no Doritos, and their appearance in “Girl Panic!” isn’t meant to be remotely subtle, either. It’s splashed across the screen both in word and deed. So is the UK edition of Harper’s Bazaar, which not coincidentally has a cover feature about the video and the supermodels in its current issue.

In fact, the only thing I was left asking at the end of “Girl Panic!” was whether the video had done a good job of advertising “Girl Panic!” itself. After far too much consideration far too early in the morning, the answer is an emphatic yes.

“Girl Panic!” is just one song on an album Taylor-made (haw haw!) to harken back to an era when Duran Duran mattered most: The ‘80s! All You Need is Now, produced by Mark Ronson, was a deliberately crafted time capsule, one which blended the Duran Duran of 2010/2011 with the sounds of 1981/1982. It’s splashy and sugary and, thanks to a rash of terrific songs and terrifically energized performances, it works from start to finish.

As a single, “Girl Panic!” dipped its toe in the water with a Record Store Day single, which included an exclusive David Lynch mix of the song on the b-side. Good fun, but where was the video?

Several months later, the video effectively captures the hedonism of the song’s grooves in scenes of young, barely clothed models touching tongues on four-poster beds, though “Girl Panic!” ebbs and flows like waves of cocaine and champagne crashing on a crystalline shoreline. The first time through the video, I wasn’t sure it had worked. But the song is like an earworm, catchy and clever, and it’s still there much later.

“Girl Panic!” works because it’s the first time since 1985’s “A View to a Kill” that a Duran Duran video effectively captures the band’s essential modus operandi: Booze, babes and bling.

The supermodels return for Harper's Bazaar
BY LUKE LEITCH | 03 NOVEMBER 2011

They have a combined age of 214. Yet whether you ascribe it to remarkable genes, marvellous make-up or (for the really cynical) artful airbrushing, there can be no denying that this vintage line-up of supermodels still looks very super indeed on the Harper's Bazaar magazine's December-issue cover. The image is an impressive showcase not only for Dolce & Gabbana corsets (the designers mastermind the look of the cover) , but for the remarkable longevity of fashion's greatest generation of clotheshorses - the supermodels.

Bazaar's editor Lucy Yeomans recruited her roster of supermodel cover girls as part of a project that saw them cast in a video for a Duran Duran single named Girl Panic. The shoot took place back in June, but according to Stefano Gabbana's Tumblr commentary at the time it felt much longer ago than that: "I feel like in the 90's", he said.
It's a month short of 22 years since Vogue magazine started the whole supermodel shebang with its wonderful cover of January 1990. All of them wearing Giorgio di Sant'Angelo, the original super-roster of Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford stared - seemingly unmade-up and most definitely un-airbrushed - straight down Peter Lindbergh's lens.
Harper's Bazaar's best dressed list 2011 in pictures
That single shot alerted the fashion world to the remarkable crop of once-in-a-generation beauties that was suddenly in its midst. Along with Claudia Schiffer, they were termed the "Big Six" and speedily became famous well beyond the confines of fashion.
Two of Vogue's originals are on Bazaar's recast homage; Crawford (now 45) and Campbell (41). The three supermodel substitutes are Helena Christensen (43), Eva Herzigova (38) and Yasmin Le Bon, (47), wife of Duran Duran's Simon.

Watch This: "Girl Panic!" Music Video by Duran Duran
BY: BRETT WARNER

Okay, so Jonas Åkerlund's long-awaited "Girl Panic!" music video is finally here. Is it everything fans hoped for and more? Hell yes. In case you're not a fellow Duran Duran obsessive, here's the deal— last year, the band tapped Mark Ronson to produce All You Need Is Now, easily their best album in two decades. The album taps into the edgy mix of post-punk, art rock, and new romantic synthpop that made their first couple records so interesting and cool... why not recapture the sprawling supermodel overload of their classic '80s videos, right?

Thus the "Girl Panic!" video—a nine-plus minute fashion-crazed epic starring Naomi Campbell as Simon Le Bon, Cindy Crawford as John Taylor, Eva Herzigova as Nick Rhodes, Helena Christensen as Roger Taylor, and Simon's wife Yasmin Le Bon as... every guitarist the band has ever had, basically.

What do you suppose it says about me that, even with all those gorgeous women hanging around, my favorite part of the video is Nick Rhodes in that bellboy costume?

Åkerlund has directed some out of control classics in the past, and "Girl Panic!" is no exception—it manages to channel the exotic flair of Duran's early videos while winking and nudging at their 30-year history with a weathered sense of humor. Plus, let's face it, Duran Duran have been obsessed with girls for so long, it was only a matter of time before they actually turned into five of them. (Some faster than others, of course... love you, Nick.)

Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell Play Duran Duran in “Girl Panic!”
November 8th, 2011

There was a time, before S&M and gun-toting, when music videos regularly featured supermodels to attract attention.

Now, a band from that era is resurrecting the trend with some of the biggest names in fashion.

Duran Duran‘s new video for “Girl Panic!” stars Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Eva Herzigova, who portray the band’s members in a highly stylized, wink-wink epic of beautiful people and debauchery.

The real Duran Duran also appears – in supporting roles.

Supermodel elite become duran duran amazing new video
Tue, 08/11/2011 - 12:34 by Tim Chipping

We do have to keep reminding ourselves that Duran Duran’s latest album All You Need Is Now is a thing of preposterous brilliance that, thanks to Mark Ronson, sounds exactly like you’d want a Duran Duran album to sound. And now, thanks to Jonas Åkerlund and the supermost of supermodels, the video to Duran Duran’s new single Girl Panic! looks like you’d want a Duran Duran video to look. Hilarious, glamorous, absurd and sexually dubious. This is fantastic.
So you’ve got Naomi Campbell as Simon Le Bon, Helena Christensen as Roger Taylor, Eva Herzigova as Nick Rhodes, Cindy Crawford as John Taylor and Yasmin Le Bon as a brilliant in-joke. The Durans themselves play interviewers and hotel staff.
Since they are Duran Duran, the supermodels obviously have a debauched party where very attractive girls in not much clothes get off with each other. So this probably isn’t that safe for work. But, you know, fuck it.

Duran Duran

Duran Duran.

Dolce & Gabbana.

Duran Duran – Girl Panic!.

Watch: Duran Duran and the Supermodels spark Girl Panic!
BY BELINDA WHITE | 08 NOVEMBER 2011

It's the video we've been hearing about for eternity. Finally today the promo for Duran Duran's latest single Girl Panic! hit Youtube in a nine and a half minute puff of fluff, sparkles, lipstick, leather and legs.

Ladies and gentleman, it's the return of the 'Supers' - Naomi Campbell (as lead singer Simon Le Bon), Helena Christensen (Roger Taylor), Eva Herzigova (Nick Rhodes), Cindy Crawford (John Taylor) and Yasmin Le Bon who is keen to point out "I am NOT a member of Duran Duran". The girls have been draughted if to play the boys, perform Girl Panic! as the boys and be interviewed by the boys themselves about how amazing and talented they all are.
If that sounds baflling, it gets stranger. The video, directed by Jonas Akerlund (he of Lady Gaga 'Telephone' fame) appears to be a riff on Louis Vuitton's autumn/winter 2011 collection, right down to the S&M gear, hotpants and bell-hops. It was even shot at London's Savoy Hotel, a reference Marc Jacobs cited in his post-show interviews.
However, far from being the work of Jacobs, the video was in fact styled by dynamic Italian design duo, Dolce & Gabbana, who make a fleeting cameo in the film.
By this point it's clear not much is supposed to make sense (again, remember Lady Gaga's Telephone), so it's best just to go with it and soak up the glamour (and blatant promotion of the various sponsors).
Highlight for us? Naomi Campbell's Austin Powers tribute seven long minutes in.
It's no 'Freedom 90' - a Supermodel reunion isn't a Supermodel reunion without Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington - but we kind of love it anyway.
